UniProtKB description:  Catalyzes the hydrolysis of the toxic natural product azetidine-2-carboxylate (an L-proline analog) by opening the azetidine ring to produce 2-hydroxy-4-aminobutanoate. Is thus involved in the detoxification of this compound but also in the degradation pathway of azetidine-2-carboxylate that allows Pseudomonas sp. A2C to grow on azetidine-2-carboxylate as the sole source of nitrogen. Does not show any detectable 2-haloacid dehalogenase activity with either (R)- or (S)-2-chloropropionate as the substrate, and is not able to hydrolyze L-proline.
