Upcoming Meeting: SACNAS
10/14
The RCSB PDB is hosting a session at the National Conference of the Society for Advancement of Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) that will take place October 16-18 in Los Angeles, CA.
Structural View of Biology: Explorations of Molecular Structure and Function
Thursday, October 16, 2014: 10:15 AM-11:45 AM
Los Angeles Convention Center 304A
This session will describe three aspects of research in structural and computational biology: how atomic structures of proteins are solved, how the Protein Data Bank has revolutionized the way researchers and students explore these structures, and how these structures are used to engineer new functions in proteins.
- Introductory Remarks, Stephen K. Burley, PhD (Chair; RCSB PDB and Rutgers)
- Amyloid Crystallography: Zapping Miniscule Crystals with Powerful X-Rays to Understand Molecular Mishaps in Disease, Rebecca Nelson, PhD (University of California, Los Angeles)
- Protein Data Bank: Enabling Open Access to Macromolecular Structures, Helen M. Berman, PhD (RCSB PDB and Rutgers)
- Towards overcoming the deficiencies of recently evolved biodegradation enzymes, Nancy Hernandez, BA (Rutgers)
